Brief History Of African Stars...........

The African Stars Sports International primary assignment of this project since August 1995 was to help to take the youth out of crime e.g. drugs, arm robbery and putting the society into unrest situation. So we decided to listen to them and help them with the local government fund committee.

New Surulere Local Government is an off-shoot of Surulere Local Government. The Local Government was created on 27th of August 1999, from the defunct Mainland Local Government. The 1991 Census (provisional Figure) puts the population of Surulere Local Government at one million one hundred and twenty three Thousand (1,123,000.00). The population must have increased further, due to the commercial nature of Lagos State and the suitable, friendly and conducive business atmosphere of Surulere.

ECONOMY

Today Surulere Local Government stands out as one of the majority commercial nerve centers of Lagos Modern Industrial Estate at Iganmu and as well famous Street like Adeniran Ogunsayan, Ogunlana Drive, Western Avenue and a host of others stand out a testimony to this economic vibrancy. Despite the elitist setting of the Local Government, the cultural and traditional heritages of the indigenes are still being upheld and dominate their social and religious lives. Important deities worshipped include Obatala, Osun, Ogun, and Ifa. However, the two universal religious (that is), Christianity and Islam have large follower despite people strong attachment to their culture.

FUTURE PROSPECTS

The future is indeed very bright for investors in the Local Government, as successive governments have shown their determination to remove all cogs in the wheel of the economic progress within the area. This is being done through the provision of essential infrastructure such as a good road-network, clearing of drains and maintenance and creation of recreational parks and playing groups.Large and small-scale industrialists are therefore encouraged to see Surulere as haven where their business can flourish.
